There's this thing that Google has which not many people know about. It's their advertising progams and it's actually how they make most of their money. Adsense is the name of the service that lets you make money, the other one just takes it away every time someone clicks on an ad.

Adsense functions on a pay per click basis which means that every time someone clicks on one of your ads, the person supplying the ad pays Google. Google then in turn pays you, and the cycle goes on and on. As we found out, this isn't always what happened for me.

When I first signed up for an adsense account for this website, we all thought that we'd be instantly rich because people just have to click on things and we'll make money. This isn't exactly how it goes though when an overly eccentric Floridian clicks your search ads 200 times in 2 hours.

Google records all types of stats that help it determine what type and cost of ads to put on your page, and one of them is a CTR, or Click Through Rate. This is the quotient of the number of times your ads have been clicked divided by the number of times they have actually been seen. Once the ads had been clicked 200 times, we looked at the stats and saw that the page had a 300% CTR. This meant to Google that for every one person going to my site, they clicked on 3 ads before coming back to the site. This is beyond impossible without some sort of foul play, so the current theory is that Google stamped a giant "Go Screw Yourself" on my account, seeing as I've only made 5 dollars since that first day. The 5 dollars I've made since, combined with the whopping three dollars from all 200 clicks on the first day, means that I have so far made a total of 8 dollars from Google. Don't let that deter you from getting an account though - most people make lots more than that. I know one person for instance, that found an ad that keeps coming up on her site that is worth $7.00 for every click, and every time it comes up, people click on it.

Google has a lot of types of ads to choose from once you become a member, in fact, most of the types of ads they provide can be found on this page right now. There are banner ads that have either text or pictures, a search bar that lets people search the web, and if they click a sponsored link, you get money. They even have link units that are things that are filled with links. The way they decide what ads to place on your site is by their crawlers. When your site loads, they search the content on it for various things such as key words, font sizes, and several other factors to help them show the highest paying ads for you to make the maximum amount of money. There are many different things your site can be about, there is pretty much an ad for every type of site. Another type of ad that they have is the referral type.
